Hi, I'm Emma
Project manager. Parent. An expat living in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term contract gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Netherlands wasn't in the original plan. As with many relocations for work, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar systems, new routines, new expectations. Daily tasks seemed more complex than they ought to be.
The Adjustment Period
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of learning on the job. Yet gradually routines took shape. We found spots that suited us, connected with other families, and began creating something that felt secure.
Why I Built Dusk Modern Library
Most online content was either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism material. What was lacking was an honest, everyday family perspective.
This site aims to bridge that gap with practical advice grounded in real life in Netherlands.
What This Site Is (And Isn't)
This site is:
- Real-world experience from living in Netherlands
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated when something truly changes
This site is not:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Ahead
Our stay in Netherlands goes on, as does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I will continue to record what we find.
If you have questions about family life in Amsterdam or anywhere in Netherlands, don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Emma
